Regions of France

France is divided into 26 regions or régions (in French), of which 21 are on the mainland France, one is the island of Corsica, and four are overseas. Each mainland region and Corsica are further subdivided into 2 to 8 Departments, or départements. Each department has its own capital city. Paris is of course the hub of France with around a quarter of the population and there are excellent travel connections fanning out to the rest of France.
